In the last couple days the core staff at Club Impact received some frustrating news. World Vision (the people at their main offices, not the people in the Brick City offices -- they're as screwed as we are), who we thought had agreed to extend the lease on the building we are operating out of for six months past the original October closing, has pulled funding. Originally, we thought we had until April to get our game together and get into our own venue. We were informed tonight at a Brick City meeting that we have until the end of September. Yup. This month, folks.
We would have preferred to tell everyone in person at a special meeting, but our options on that weren't the best. I don't think any of us felt right about potentially with-holding the information until Monday's volunteer meeting, and there isn't time to call an emergency meeting between now and Saturday's show. It's not news that's going to be nice to deliver, regardless of when or how, and under the circumstances, we don't necessarily have the luxury of waiting to get you guys involved in a solution.
On Saturday: Paul, Kerry, Craig, Randi, Kayla, Bella and I will be around all evening to discuss the situation with the rest of the Impact volunteer staff. We would like for volunteers to arrive at 4PM, or as close to that as possible (we realize this is crappy notice), so that we can talk, as well. We've got a lot of discussing to do in the coming weeks.
Between now and Monday: there is a thread titled "September Volunteer Meeting." Please folks, go and read through and make suggestions so that I can get them on an agenda for the Monday volunteer meeting. Are there organizations that would make good community partners for Impact? Does anyone know of a temporary venue that we could use after September? Things to consider as we move on from Brick City?
Monday: will be the September volunteer meeting, and it will be at Brick City at 7PM, as usual. Be ready to discuss things, make some decisions. We'll probably all have some extra jobs for Impact over the course of the week, as well. We're going to need everyone. This also includes anyone who has worked with Impact in the past, bands, other organizations, ANYONE who can help us. Please invite anyone you can.
On that note -- please, all of you, check the message board once a day. If you can't, make arrangements to get the dirt from someone who can. It's our best means of mass communication.
While this is a rotten situation, I really hope that we can all just let go of the things that are done, or that we can't control any longer, and focus on the future of Club Impact. We've all talked about what we'd like for Impact "if only," or "someday." Now, we're being forced out of a rut, and it could be our chance to make all those ideas and dreams reality when we have our own venue to work out of.
